Sons and Daughters of Guam Club
Dedicated to the preservation of the Chamorro Culture
A group of Seniors will attend weekly “Eat Smart Live Strong” Classes starting October 2015 prior to the SDGC/UPAC (Union of Pan Asian Communities) Senior lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The San Diego County and UPAC program goal is to encourage eating 2 cups of vegetables and 1-1/2 cups of fruit daily, combined with moderate, comfortable exercise as much as possible. “Feeling Fit” exercise classes were also scheduled for those who were interested in meeting their goals. All classes: Free. The Group became the Man Amko’ Chamorro, and a Chamorro cookbook evolved from these weekly meetings. Many cultural and traditional recipes with a healthy slant were submitted by the team. We hope some of the recipes will be included in the Senior Lunch program menu.
Many of the vegetables that will be grown in the garden are from the recipe book and will be utilized by the Senior Lunch Program. Be sure to check out the garden boxes when you visit the Club.
Helping hands and green thumbs are needed to plant and maintain vegetables and fruit trees on the SDGC grounds.
